Local Nature Reserve extended.

Wildflowers in meadow

Mull Wood local nature reserve is to have its boundaries extended. The new nature reserve in Croxteth Country Park will be called the Croxteth Local Nature Reserve and will be roughly double the size of the existing reserve. The Croxteth LNR will still include Mull Wood, but will also include other woodland areas such as Cocked Hat wood, Dam wood and the Wilderness and Ice House woods, along with some of the agricultural land in the park.

The expansion is part of Liverpool City Council's Local Nature Reserve project in partnership with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

A successful bid for ICEP (the Integrated Countryside and Environment Plan) grants will ensure that some woodland improvements can start to benefit the reserve.

One of the first signs of activity is in the Sawmill paddock area - grass has already been sprayed (Friday 16 September) to create ideal conditions for wildflower seeds to be sown; the first step on the way to creating a wildflower meadow area - increasing the biodiversity (number of species which can be supported by an area) of the LNR.
