Molyneux family at war!
Liverpool's historic Croxteth Hall turned back the clock almost 400 years at the weekend (June 26 and 27 2006) - as Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads went head to head with the Royalist Cavaliers. Larger image of Molyneux regiment members on the steps of Croxteth Hall
The opposing sides re-enacted a battle from the English Civil War at Croxteth Hall and Country Park as a tribute to the Molyneux family - later the Earls of Sefton, who lived at the hall. Sir Richard Molyneux fought for King Charles in the English Civil War (1642-1651).
Nearly a thousand Sealed Knot members took part in the event performing scenes from the war, using 12 artillery cannons and 80 muskets; a living history camp providing snapshots of life in the war, from clothes of the period to what people ate and drank. Larger image of battlefield
The Walled Garden hosted a free educational exhibition aimed at young children and there was a mouse trail ('Molly' the mouse dressed in Molyneux Regiment colours) providing additional fun for youngsters inside the hall.
The Sealed Knot is the largest single battle re-enactment group in Europe, and although it is an educational charity the emphasis is on family fun. Larger image of Royalist sodiers
