Stinkhorn fungus
The stinkhorn fungus (Phallus impudicus) lives up to its name and smells of rotting flesh. This attracts flies to it which in turn help to spread its spores (the fungal equivalent to plant seeds).
Young stinkhorns however do not smell, and look almost like a white egg in the woodland leaf litter - and at this stage they are edible!
