Friends plant commemorative tree

The Friends of Croxteth Hall & Country Park and Glendale staff plant a Dawn Redwood

The Friends of Croxteth Hall and Country Park planted a Dawn Redwood tree this morning (February 11) as part of the Cen-tree-nary celebrations, celebrating 100 years of the Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services. As part of the celebrations, and tied in with Liverpool's Year of the Environment, 100 trees have been planted all over the city.

Christine Quirk from the 'Friends' and staff from Glendale Liverpool Ltd planted our tree (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) in the grounds close to the Hall. In the next 20 or so years it should grow well, and could eventually reach a height of around 15m (about 50 feet).

Dawn Redwoods were thought to be extinct only 60 years ago, and are still on the critically endangered list.
