Queen Anne Wing renovation
Phase 3 of the project to restore the exterior facade of the Queen Anne wing is underway. Work will concentrate on repointing the brickwork and restoring and painting the window frames and surrounding stonework on the end elevation near the Old Dining Room.
Metal grills in the 'Game Larders' beneath the terrace will be blasted clean, primed and painted, some work will be done 'in situ', other grills will be removed and worked on off site. New frames to house the grills will be constructed and fitted, with polycarbonate sheeting behind to keep out the worst of the weather!
Inside, in 1952, a huge fire destroyed much of the building and contents in this wing. Today, the family history room, which sets the scene for the vistor tour, is located in one of the 'burnt out rooms'.
