Heritage sports day success
Croxteth Hall was the spectacular venue for a sporting event with a difference - people watched and joined in sports which developed in the Victorian and Edwardian times - ranging from golf and cricket through to children's street-games such as hopscotch.
Victorian and Edwardian characters added to the heritage scene, with lots of attractions to keep the whole family entertained.
The Heritage Sports Day helped celebrate Liverpool's 800th Birthday.

VISITORS CELEBRATE LIVERPOOLS SPORTING HERITAGE
Nearly 6,000 visitors attended the Liverpool Community Games Heritage Sports Day on Sunday, against the fantastic historical backdrop of Croxteth Hall and Country Park.
The family orientated event featured a variety of sports which became popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, including croquet, golf, rugby and football. Children had their picture taken with a reproduction "Ordinary 52" Penny Farthing and actors and dancers strolled around the site and entertained the crowds. Families were also invited to take part in a treasure hunt within the walled garden, finding clues with pictures and facts about different sports from the period.
John Dixon, the Strategic Director for the Liverpool Community Games said,
The Heritage Sports Day was a great success due to the variety of interesting activities available, keeping both children and adults entertained throughout the day. Interaction between staff and members of the community was encouraging to see and we hope to build on this strong foundation for the event in the future.
The event celebrated Liverpool's 800th birthday year, in the lead of to Liverpool Capital of Culture 2008 and also the Olympics in 2012. Incidentally London hosted the Olympics in 1908 - during the Edwardian era.
Due to the success of the day the organisers, Events Northern Ltd, are hoping this will become an annual event within the Croxteth Hall calendar.
