Room to Room Grand National Race

Horses rise together in the Grand National

Over the years, the Earls of Sefton have had very close links with the famous Grand National Steeplechase, having once owned the land on which Aintree racecourse is built. 2007 sees two brand new stands being built at Aintree, one of which remembers this close association as it is named the Lord Sefton Stand.

Running between Thursday 12 April and Sunday 15 April during our normal opening hours - have a bit of Grand National fun as you go round the Edwardian rooms of Lord Sefton's home - Croxteth Hall.

Pick a 'horse' from our list of historical names linked to the history of Croxteth Hall & Country Park. As you follow the course around the rooms, from the starting post (Wine Cellar) through to the finishing post (Lord Sefton's Dressing Room) look out for information about how your 'horse' is getting along - hopefully you won't have picked a 'fell at the first!'

Some of the horses you can expect to see at the starting post are Lord Dashalong, Leaping Lempereur, Sefton and Molyneux. If you are lucky enough to pick the winner (or be placed second, third or fourth) pick up your winnings (small treat) from the Gift Shop!

For our younger visitors -
Jockeys wear different coloured silks for the race designed by the horse owners. As part of your visit around Croxteth Hall, a colouring-in sheet will be provided for children to take home with them to design their own colours. Return it to us and the best design will receive a prize from the Hall Gift Shop. Closing date for entries - Friday 27 April 2007.
