Compost give-away
Now is a great time to improve your garden soil - one of the very best ways is to add compost to the soil. Compost is great for ensuring your plants have plenty of food to keep them growing well, but also helps to improve the structure of the soil - ensuring that sandy soil retains more of the moisture and nutrients required by plants, and also breaking up heavy clay soil to improve drainage and texture.
Liverpool City Council is part of a composting scheme which is made up of the five Merseyside councils and MWDA (Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority). We have teamed up with National recycling body WRAP (Waste and resources action programme) to offer cut price compost bins to residents. Residents who use the green waste collection service or home compost are playing a vital role in diverting compostible waste from landfill.
On Saturday 24 March between 10.00am and 4.00pm, Liverpool City Council are giving away the compost made from the green waste collected from the green waste collection services across Merseyside to local residents - as a 'thankyou' for recycling their garden waste using the collection service, or home composting their waste.
Bring your own shovel and bags to transport the compost in - there will be someone in our main car park off Muirhead Avenue to help. Also look out for the 'Compost Caravan' - with lots of interesting facts about recycling and composting!
