Country Park

Rhododendron in flower Self guided
The wide open spaces of our lawns give freedom to run and play games, but the park is also a great place to appreciate the changing seasons; a leaf-kicking autumn walk, a spring flower visit, frost on the leaves in winter or sitting in the shade of a tree in summer ...

We have a number of printed resources to help you get the most from your visit.

We have a Games Box with a selection of toys for activity play - soft balls, bats, bean bags, cones, parachute etc. This is free but must be booked in advance of your visit.

Risk Assessment: A Croxteth risk assessment covering all Country Park based (PDF [28Kb] opens in new window) visits (including story telling) is available.

Four Seasons Trail (January - November)
A healthy walk in our 'outdoor classroom' to explore the changing seasons and what to look out for at different times of the year. How these seasonal changes and changing weather conditions affects plants and animals will be introduced. We will also introduce how climate change is altering the traditional timing of the seasons.
The trail provides the opportunity to look at different habitats (places where animals and plants live) and the variety of life (biodiversity) found there. Examples of plant materials may be gathered, according to season, for further investigation or display back in school.
Sustainability is raised as an issue we can all do something about for example plant a tree. Everybody gets a chance to be an acorn and see if they can survive in the fun, innovative 'Croxteth Survival Game'.  Four Seasons Trail (PDF [63.7Kb] opens in new window) Teachers Notes.
