Walled Garden KS1

Dahlia growing in the Walled Garden Self guided

Our Walled Garden is a great place to see a wide variety of plants, from common roses to more exotic cacti in greenhouses and large old fruit trees. The wide range of colour and shape can be highlighted, as well as an understanding of the parts of a plant and seasonal produce. We have a selection of printed resources to help you get the most from your visit.

Each child sows a seed (usually a bean) in a pot. These can be taken back to school and watched and recorded as they grow. Winnie the Pooh and Friends
The Head Gardener's wife introduces herself and describes her typical day and points out some of the historical features of the garden. She then tells a 'Winnie the Pooh' story - it will surely have something to do with bees and honey and somehow obtaining the honey without the bees knowing - but bees being bees - they are sure to find out!

Peter Rabbit & Friends
The Head Gardener's wife looks at the plants and vegetables in the Walled Garden and tells a story of some of the animals that feed there. Mr McGregor has a vegetable patch which he guards against the likes of Peter Rabbit and others. A game of tag, or catch me, is played and other stories and rhymes enliven this delightful visit.

There's a Bear - Where?
A new adventure based on a well known story about a hunt for a bear. Visit the Walled Garden or the country park and follow a treasure hunt type trail to find the missing bear. Where is that bear?
