Special Educational Needs
We welcome visits from groups with special needs. Most of our programmes can be adapted to suit your pupils.
The site provides an excellent range of stimuli to aid learning and forms the basis for an exciting day out. Please speak to the Education Officer (0151 233 6912) to discuss your particular requirements.
Access
At present there is good access by wheelchair to most of the buildings, the Home Farmyard (cobbled area) and the Walled Garden (gravel paths). A lift gives wheelchair access to the first floor Hall display rooms. There is dedicated parking for blue badge holders and Special School minibuses at the back of Croxteth Hall (follow signs for the Conference and Disabled Car Park off Croxteth Hall Lane). Most of the park paths and trails including many in Croxteth Local Nature Reserve are surfaced with tarmac or stone.
Hands on History
Look at and handle a wide range of old household objects with one of our education staff. See if you can work out what it is and who might have used it! What materials were used to make them, and are any recognisable from today's gadgets? The objects present an eclectic mix - from a chef 's hat to washboard to horse brasses - all selected to illustrate aspects of life in the Hall and country estate a century ago. Look round the Hall for more household items using and 'Eye-Spy' sheet. Teachers notes for Hands on History

New for 2010 - Sounds of Nature
I CAN SEE, HEAR AND FEEL NATURE
This experiential visit to our outdoor classroom provides the opportunity to learn about nature through sounds, textures and visual signals by listening, feeling and looking closely at the natural world all around. Children will be encouraged to express feelings and develop an appreciation of their surroundings. On a more practical level, fieldwork to study plants and animals in their natural habitats can be tailored to suit a wide spectrum of ability levels appropriate to your group.
Customised and Special Visits
It may be possible to 'customise' a visit to your particular requirements. We regularly adapt elements from one or more programmes to cater for specific topics.
We have successfully incorporated Theatre In Education, art and drama workshops at KS2 as well as programmes for Secondary and Tertiary Education. We also work with schools, colleges and universities to provide work placements, assistance with projects and teaching topics ranging from GNVQ Leisure and Tourism to Countryside Management. Please contact the Education Officer (telephone 0151 233 6912) or Senior Ranger (telephone 0151 233 6915) to discuss your requirements.
Dates, duration and charges are dependent on visits agreed. Essential helpers are free with SEN groups.
