Visit hints and tips
We want your visit to be easy for you to arrange. To this end, we offer free advance visits for you to come and see exactly where your pupils will be coming and check out the facilities on offer.
Try before you buy - free advance visits
We recommend you come here in advance to plan your visit, sort out transport, risk assessments, etc. Write, fax (0151 233 6905) or e-mail with your details (your name, school or college, proposed date of visit, KS or area of interest) to book your advance planning visit complimentary ticket.
Time management
Allow time for a toilet stop! Please arrive in good time for your visit (especially if guided) to allow for parking, walking to the Hall and checking in. Please let us know your departure time - and check your coach operator knows this too - we find they sometimes differ and schools depart earlier than they expected to!
Supervision and free adult places
For all visits you should have sufficient adults with your class to comply with your LEA guidelines for school trips. Please remember that your risk assessment may alter the supervision ratio.
Up to age 6 years: 1 adult supervisor free with every five children (Nurseries, Infant schools)Risk Assessments
Over 6 years old: 1 adult supervisor free with every 10 children (Junior & Senior schools)
Essential helpers and care workers: free on a one to one basis.
You will need to risk assess your intended activities. To help you, our risk assessments for many guided, themed or seasonal visits are available for you to download (to be used in conjunction with your own school EVO risk assessment). The safety and discipline of school parties is the full responsibility of the teacher in charge of the visit.
Group Sizes - making your visit easier
To help you, we can give each group supervisor a ticket, which will enable you to split your class into smaller groups if you wish.
Home Farm Visitors
Careful supervision of children is necessary on the farm. We recommend you show the children the Farmyard Code, displayed at the farm. Please do not feed the animals unless guided by our staff. 'Health & Safety on the Farm
' and 'The Farmyard Code
' leaflets with helpful guidelines are available.
Picnics
Picnic tables are provided in the grounds or you may prefer to picnic on the lawns. The tables are by the adventure playground and at the far side of the front lawn. Please do not eat inside the Hall, Farm or Walled Garden. In wet weather, limited indoor space is available - please let us know if you require this on the booking form and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
Litter
What litter? We know you won't leave any! There are bins around the site.
Clothing
We hope it doesn't rain - but it may, so please ensure all children have suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, especially if you have outdoor projects or visit the Farm. Wellingtons or boots are recommended for Country Park walks.
Cloakrooms
Coats and bags may be left in the Hall at owner's risk, though space for this may be limited on busy days.
Shopping Frenzy
If your children have brought money, they will love to visit our shops for souvenirs! Please limit the numbers going in at any one time - we suggest groups of ten. Shopping decisions can eat into your education time, so we have a suggested solution. The Gift Shop can prepare Souvenir Bags, with Croxteth branded pens, rubbers, pencils etc, ready for collection. These are available in £1.50, £2.00 and £2.50 sizes.
Smile - you are on camera!
We suggest that if you are taking pictures during your visit you should ensure you have the necessary approval. Please do not use flash photography inside the Hall. CCTV cameras are installed around the Hall rooms and outside the Hall, for the protection of the property and visitors.
Rain won't stop play!
On outdoor and farm visits our staff will go ahead with the visit unless they decide that conditions have become unsafe and the group are at risk.
