Education 2010

Children investigate lavender in the Walled Garden at CroxtethCroxteth Hall & Country Park is one of the major heritage centres in the North West, attracting thousands of visitors every year. It is the former home of the Molyneux family (Earls of Sefton) and lies at the heart of a historic country estate, yet is only five miles from Liverpool city centre. Today it provides a broad and rich educational resource giving every pupil an outstanding quality visit which will engage the mind and body and offer stimulating learning experiences.

We have now started to produce a regular Newsletter (PDF [2.5Mb] opens in new window) full of general information to share in the staffroom and a flavour of the great range of learning opportunities on offer.
If you want a copy to keep you in touch with developments, special offers and news all to help you plan a better visit, just e-mail us, with 'Learning' as the subject and the following information: Your title, name, school, LEA and e-mail address (school or personal) along with the Key Stage you want information about and your intended visit date (if you have one). Please say and include your school postal address if you would like a 'hard copy' sending to you to show your external visit co-ordinatorm, Head or just leave for others to read in the staff room. We promise not to bombard you with lots of other information!

2010 Year of Health and Wellbeing logo2010 has been designated as Liverpool's Year of Health and Wellbeing. Many of our educational visits have aspects designed specifically to tie in with this theme; healthy outdoor classroom activities such as minibeast hunts, Spring Awake! an orienteering course and play areas are just some opportunities to develop healthy learning activities, and we can provide a games box for your pupils to use during lunch breaks out on the lawns around the Hall. We place equal importance on the benefits of providing a stimulating environment to engage young people's minds; the farm with its sights, sounds and smells, the Walled Garden in spring and summer is a great place for sensory experiences, and of course a visit to the grand Hall can't help but inspire pupils.

Our beautiful parkland and woodland provide a magnificent 'outdoor classroom' with many opportunities to explore the natural world and its many habitats and diverse flora and fauna. We aim to provide you with a visit to suit your requirements amongst some of the most beautiful and diverse habitats in the city, located only 5 miles (20 minutes drive) from the city centre. We will continue to place an emphasis on developing and making accessible our rich natural heritage.

Croxteth has earned a reputation for high quality and value for money learning opportunities. Visits are delivered by friendly, knowledgeable Rangers from our Ranger Interpretation Service (RIS), as well as Farm Rangers, Gardeners, Heritage Volunteers and storytellers. All programme deliverers have CRB enhanced disclosure. The RIS may also provide Risk Assessments, teacher's notes and learning resources for visits.

Browse the relevant key stages from the menu bar on the left of the page: each key stage is subdivided into visits available in the Hall, Farm, Garden or Park, along with any of our 'seasonal specials'. Once you have planned your day you can call us to check availability (0151 233 6905), contact us to discuss your requirements, download a booking form (PDF [126.9Kb] opens in new window), teachers notes or example risk assessments and look forward to enjoying a great time here coupled with fantastic learning opportunities for your pupils.

Heritage Education Trust logoCroxteth Hall & Country Park offers innovative, high quality education programmes, recognised by the Heritage Education Trust in the Sandford Awards for Heritage Education. The Sandford Award (reassessed and reawarded in 2006) has been held by Croxteth for over 25 years of excellence in heritage education.

We have excellent facilities on site, from toilets to adventure playgrounds, wet weather rooms, lunch rooms and free use of games boxes (bookable in advance). We have a range of educational resources, including interpretive panels, historical artefacts, worksheets, workbooks and publications - but our most important resource is our dedicated Ranger Interpretation Service and staff, who provide expert knowledge alongside innovative delivery of the topics. A large number of schools and education providers make repeat visits to us in the knowledge that their students will have a visit to remember - we hope you do too.

The Hall, Home Farm and Walled Garden offer many areas of study with scope for Science, Maths, History, English(including interesting opportunities for literacy through storytelling) and many cross curricular links can be made with art and drama and PSE. We offer programmes to suit EY/Foundation through KS1, KS2, KS3 & KS4 to Tertiary, Further Education and U3A.
