Education 2012

Croxteth Hall & Country Park is one of the major heritage centres in the North West, attracting thousands of visitors every year. It is the former home of the Molyneux family (Earls of Sefton) and lies at the heart of a historic country estate, yet is only five miles from Liverpool city centre. Today it provides a broad and rich educational resource giving every pupil an outstanding quality visit which will engage the mind and body and offer stimulating learning experiences.

We are in the process of developing programme details for 2012. Keep checking back to these web pages for the latest information. In the meantime if you need to talk with someone about planning a visit to Croxteth with your class, please call either the Croxteth Hall Office on 0151 233 6905 or the Ranger Information Service (RIS) team here on 0151 233 6915. They will be happy to discuss Learning Opportunities suitable for your visit.

Our beautiful parkland, rare breed farm, Victorian Walled Garden and woodland provide a magnificent 'outdoor classroom' with many opportunities to explore the natural world and its many habitats and diverse flora and fauna. We aim to provide you with a visit to suit your requirements amongst some of the most beautiful and diverse habitats in the city, located only 5 miles (20 minutes drive) from the city centre. We will continue to place an emphasis on developing and making accessible our rich natural heritage.

The Hall, Home Farm and Walled Garden and wider park offer many areas of study with scope for Science, Maths, History, English (including interesting opportunities for literacy through storytelling) and many cross curricular links can be made with art and drama and PSE. We offer programmes to suit EY/Foundation through KS1, KS2, KS3 & KS4 to Tertiary, Further Education and U3A.

We have excellent fully accessible facilities on site, from toilets to adventure playgrounds, wet weather rooms, lunch rooms and free use of games boxes (bookable in advance). Even ample coach parking is free. We have a range of educational resources, including interpretive panels, historical artefacts, worksheets, workbooks and publications - but our most important resource is our dedicated Ranger Interpretation Service and staff, who provide expert knowledge alongside innovative delivery of the topics. A large number of schools and education providers make repeat visits to us in the knowledge that their students will have a visit to remember - we hope you do too.

Croxteth has earned a reputation for high quality and value for money learning opportunities. Visits are delivered by a range of friendly, knowledgeable people including Staff, Gardeners, Heritage Volunteers and storytellers. All programme deliverers have CRB enhanced disclosure. We may also provide Risk Assessments, teacher's notes and learning resources for visits.

Spend the whole day at Croxteth; half exploring the Farm, getting close to the animals and finding out how they are cared for, the other half will be an exciting High Wire Adventure activity with Jungle Parc. An under cover area to eat your picnic is included and we can even lay on a children's 'Party Picnic Hamper' if you wish. This new visit represents a great saving compared with booking each visit separately! For booking and price details please visit our Farm Education page.

2010 Year of Health and Wellbeing logo2011 to 2020 has been tagged as Liverpool's Decade of Health and Wellbeing. Many of our educational visits have aspects designed specifically to tie in with this theme; healthy 'outdoor classroom' activities such as minibeast hunts or woodland or garden seasonal walks. An orienteering course and play areas are just some opportunities to develop healthy learning activities, and we can provide a games box for your pupils to use during lunch breaks on the lawns around the Hall. We place equal importance on the benefits of providing a stimulating environment to engage young people's minds; the farm with its sights, sounds and smells, the Walled Garden in spring and summer is a great place for sensory experiences, and of course a visit to the grand Hall can't help but inspire pupils.

Aims
To achieve our vision we will work in partnership to deliver:

"top quality education services which raise attainment and develop the self-esteem, skills, knowledge and qualifications that our citizens need"

Vaqas logoQuality Assured Visitor Attraction
Our park is now a 'Quality Assured Visitor Attraction' - an award presented after a screening process by Visit Britain which assessed Croxteth for its facilities and level of service. Annual assessment is made to ensure the quality standard is maintained. Croxteth has held this award for 10 years running.
