What's in a name?
With the surge of interest in genealogy, we are often asked for information about family relatives who may have been employed at the Hall in the past, or people may be trying to find a link between their family and the Molyneux family.
A copy of the pedigree or family tree of the direct line of descent of the Molyneuxs can be seen at the Hall on request, but for those who think they may have a connection with the Molyneuxs through a branch of the family tree they may have to search further afield.
Like many families the Molyneux scattered all over the country and have a strong presence in Ireland where Molyneux is a common name it seems. When the 7th and last Earl died in 1972 no direct heir could be traced and the Hall passed into the hands of the local authority. The family records lie mostly at Lancashire records office for the early history, diaries and memorabilia from the mid 1800s can be accessed at Liverpool records office. The same site may be able to help with those trying to trace ancestors who may have worked at the Hall.
